NXT MSRDS won't install

hello Vincent,

thank you in advance for taking my question. I'm an avid Mindstorms NXT user and am very intrigued by your simulation

however, I have been trying to install the NXT MSRDS on several computers, but the install always ends the same. just before being finished, the install halts and a dialog box pops up containing the words "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." once this message displays, the install reverses and removes everything

this is not due to the .net framework requirement. I have installed 3.5 on all computers that I tried. is there something that should be downloaded for the MSRDS to work? does it require another one of your products, or is it a standalone item? do you have any ideas what might be happening?

ha! looks like you answered my question surreptitiously

I perused your forum a bit, and found your post of requirements. I installed the MS Robotics Developer Studio and things seem to work fine now. stay tuned...

but then again...

well, it looks as if the program works fine with one exception. the control panel works as it should, I can choose the simulations, but the simulation window is simply grey. I suppose that may have something to do with my graphics card. I'll keep trying...

The minimum requirement for MSRDS simulation is a 64Mb video card that supports pixel shaders 2.0. If you have this kind of video card, try to update your drivers with the last ones.

The exception is a bluetooth connection error I think (by default, we try to connect to the real robot on the bluetooth COM9 port at the beginning). The simulation should work anyway.

c'est la vie...

I figured it was the graphics card. my laptop is working on an ATI Mobility Radeon with only 16k of memory. I did try the com 9 fix after reading through your previous posts a little more, but figured it was a long shot. now that I understand that it was only for the Bluetooth connection, it's easy to see why it didn't change anything (I have not yet tried to use the real robot controls)

I have the same problem: A program required for this install to complete could not be run and I am using a GeoForce 9400 GT (see description here). It supports the Shader Model 4.0.

Do You have any ideas, what the problem could be?

Have you installed Microsoft Robotics Studio ? (Lego pack requires MSRDS 2008)
And you must install the pack in the MSRDS installation directory

I installed MSRDS 2008 R2 and the NXT-MSRDS pack tries to be installed on the MSRDS directory... I really don´t know, what is wrong

NXT-MSRDS has not been update to R2 yet. Try with MSRDS 2008 (but it's weird, it shouldn't do this error).

A R2 version should be available soon
