Hello,

First of all, thank you very much for the 3D simulation program as it may be an essential tool for my project in school. I am currently a senior student at University of South Florida and my project is to be able to configure a Lego NXT robot and make it capable to play soccer. My resources are very limited due to my working schedule and I only get to physically visit our school once per week. That leaves me no choice but to work at a simulated environment to accomplish majority of the work required for my project.

I've attached a screenshot of the error I receive when trying to run Simply Sim. I ran it after a fresh install of MS Robotics Developer Studio Express 2008.

I run Vista 64 bit OS and I'm sure I have enough graphics/memory to run this.

Lastly, there is one thing that is really unclear to me with MSRDS. Is it possible for me to build a physical Lego NXT Model that is capable of playing soccer by just using MSRDS and Simply Sim? This question is very important to me because I can't afford to buy a NXT model kit anytime soon and I may have to request a different project if this is not possible without having a physical robot.

Once again, thank you very much and I hope to hear from you soon,

Hi !

On 64 bit OS, you should edit the .bat file that launches the SimplySim Lego NXT and replace "DssHost.exe" by "DssHost32.exe".
MSRDS simulation engine uses XNA assemblies that only exist in 32bit version. We were not aware of this problem when we released the pack.

To build a new robot, you have to write your own robot class in MSRDS and make your own 3D model with a 3D editor. It's quite difficult, you should find documentations in MSRDS help file and MSRDS forum.

Regards,
Vincent

Hi,

I'm trying to get the software to run but get exactly the same problem. I edited my batch file as you said but it still didn't work. My graphics card supports directx 10 and shader model 4 so I'm not sure what the problem is.

I get all the same errors in the command window, the simulation window opens and I get the following error.

Any ideas?

In your MSRDS installation folder, you should find a file named config\SimulationEngine.2008.config.xml

It contains configuration for the simulation engine, just check that the value for the following settings is higher enough

Code:
<EmbeddedResourceLoadTimeoutMS>30000</EmbeddedResourceLoadTimeoutMS>
